Monkey Around With Monkey Business @ NLB

Hello!

Today we got to conduct children activities at the National Library Building :D

We had a 15 minutes storytelling session

with iPads (we're going tech savvy!)

Sicheng as Mackey and Rae-Ann as Mackey's mommy

After that the children got to make their monkey masks!

colouring the ears...

proud of their masks!

We also had colouring activity where the children were taught to recognise the Dos and Don'ts in the Nature Reserves (:

We made many new friends. Here are Klyde and Kylie!

Sharifah and Safiayah promise not to feed monkeys and not to use plastic bags when around monkeys!

We will be having another children session at the National Library Building on 26th November, 2-3pm. Come down and make a promise too!

Storytelling session!

EDIT: Activities on the 26st of November will be from 2-3pm, not 3-4pm. (:

Hello!

IMBA will be holding a fun session with different activities at the National Library for children ages 3-6 years at the Children's Section.

Activities:
1. Story-telling
Learn more about Mackey and his life in the nature reserve, and understand what to do and what not to do when you visit the nature reserves.

2. Make your own monkey masks
Learn about the facial expressions of the long-tailed macaques. See how they express their feelings and understand that even though we may have the same facial expressions, we may not be feeling the same way!

3. Colouring Activity
Understand what not to bring and do in the nature reserves through this interactive colouring activity!

Come down and Join Us! :D
We hope to see you there

Forest Fiesta 2011 @ Geylang East Library

Today was one of the most exciting days for IMBA in 2011!
We were asked to participate in Forest Fiesta 2011, organised by the Roots and Shoots group of RGS.
Our booth had the activity "Make a Monkey Face!" which required little kids to design their own monkey faces from paper plates and crayons.
It was held in the Children's Section of Geylang East Public Library.

The kids were focused on colouring,

with this guy unsure of which colored crayon to pick.

The kids had fun and so did we!

The highlight of the day was listening to Dr Jane Goodall speak!

28/5 at Bukit Timah Hill

Hey!
Today we did outreach at Bukit Timah Hill,
the highlight of our trip was definitely talking to a group of Japanese children.
They were so attentive and adorable!

We taught them the facial expressions on monkeys.
Here's a boy doing the "I'm Scared" expression

Here's a boy doing the "I'm Angry" expression

Here's another boy exaggerating the expression :D

They were very enthusiastic and asked many questions!

Monkey Signs at BTNR

On the 22nd of February,
Our Monkey Business Seniors and teacher-in-charge
put up signs in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve! :D
The signs were placed at the Kampong Trail
and serves to remind visitors there
about the etiquettes in a nature reserve.

"Do not tempt me by bringing food in plastic bags."

Kampong Trail and the Monkey Business Signs!

"Please do not walk in between my friends and I"

We hope you'll go down and visit the signs
and at the same time follow the etiquettes in the nature reserve (:

Introduction :D

When you encounter monkeys on the boardwalk.
Either wait for them to move away
or quickly walk pass them without making any eye contact.
Do not disturb them or scare them away.
They might scare you away instead.

Over the years, macaques have become over reliant on human food.
Thus, many are trying to find food from our dustbins instead of searching for food in the forests.
This dustbin outside Macritchie is not a special monkey-proof dustbin.
Hence, the monkeys ransacked the dustbin to find the little food left from human beings.

Human food is bad for monkeys because it is too salty for them.
Therefore, please do not feed the monkeys.
We need to stop this monkey dependence on human food.
